POSEYVILLE, Indiana (WFIE) - The town is working diligently to ensure it remains secure, which is why they have implemented a new security system within the small town.

Resources in Poseyville are often limited. That encouraged their Town Marshall to adopt a more strategic approach.

“Anything that we can do to get creative, as a one-person department, I do not have the option to significantly increase patrols,” said Charles Carter, the Poseyville Town Marshall.

With a small police department, Carter devised a method to enhance surveillance. The town purchased four of these cameras to help reduce crime.

“It operates using solar power and connects via mobile network towers,” Carter explained.

The four cameras cost the town $2,000, but the entire cost was funded through a grant.

“We’ve had some issues in some residential areas where garden signs have been stolen, and some garden ornaments have also been stolen," said Carter. "These are minor crimes but they really have a significant impact on the owner.”

Local businesses like Jonie’s Flower Shop are appreciative of the innovative approach taken by the small department. “I think it’s excellent; Poseyville is already a relatively safe town, but they are doing everything possible to maintain that status, and I just think it’s great,” said Joni Jackson, Owner of Jonie's Flower Shop.

They can even be placed in a tree, undetectable to the naked eye.

“Every time it detects motion, it will capture an image or it can record up to two minutes of video per session,” Carter says.

Carter also noted there have been no crime reports since they purchased the cameras a few weeks ago.
